Jaipur, February 23, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) – In a major joint operation, Baran Police and the district administration busted an alleged illegal firecracker trade and seized explosive materials and finished fireworks worth around ₹40 crore. Three warehouses of R.D. Brothers located on the Atru-Baran Road have been sealed.
Superintendent of Police, Baran, Abhishek Andasu said that on February 20, credible information was received that explosive materials were being stored illegally and far beyond permitted capacity in warehouses near Mandola. Taking the matter seriously, a team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Chaudhary and Circle Officer Hariram Soni, along with Kotwali SHO Bhajanlal (Probationer RPS), conducted a raid at the site.
Safety Norms Ignored, Case Registered
During inspection by the police and Municipal Council team, serious safety lapses were found. The warehouses reportedly lacked basic fire safety equipment, posing a significant risk to public safety. The administration immediately sealed all three warehouses.
On the report of Municipal Council Commissioner Bhuvnesh Meena, a case has been registered under Section 288 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Explosives Act, 1984.
2.31 Lakh Kg Explosive Material Seized
A prolonged seizure operation was carried out on February 21 and 22, involving the bomb disposal squad, FSL team and fire brigade personnel. In total, approximately 2,31,300 kilograms (231 tonnes) of explosive material was recovered.
The seized items include around 338 quintals of blue, red and plain sutli bombs packed in 1,350 sacks; 5,500 cartons of ready-made firecrackers (about 1,918 quintals); 12 quintals of explosive gunpowder including potassium nitrate, sulphur, charcoal and aluminium powder; 45 quintals of ‘zarda’ material used in firecrackers; 20 bundles of fuse wires; packing machines; and a large quantity of branded labels.
The total estimated value of the seized firecrackers and raw material is around ₹40 crore.
Kotwali SHO Bhajanlal, Kishanganj SHO Rameshchand Merotha, Municipal Council Commissioner Bhuvnesh Meena and Sub-Divisional Collector Vishwajeet Singh played key roles in the operation. The detailed investigation is currently being conducted by Kishanganj SHO Rameshchand Merotha.
Police are now probing the source of such a large quantity of explosive material and identifying those involved in the illegal operation.
