New Delhi: ayurveda has long valued many natural herbs and plants for their medicinal properties, used traditionally to treat a variety of ailments. One such plant is the seemingly simple Changeri grass, which holds a special place in Ayurvedic medicine due to its wide range of health benefits.
Changeri grass is commonly found around us but remains largely unrecognized for its healing qualities. According to Ayurveda, this grass is beneficial for heart-related diseases as well as various skin problems, helping to maintain overall health.
This grass grows easily in open spaces and even in pots, often mistaken for a weed and discarded by many. Changeri grass is identifiable by its heart-shaped leaves, usually with three leaflets, and small yellow flowers. Ayurvedic texts, including the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita, provide detailed information about its uses and suitable applications.
Changeri grass is especially important for digestive health. Its use can relieve stomach pain, gas, indigestion, and piles by controlling harmful bacteria in the intestines. For the heart, it offers benefits due to its content of potassium, calcium, vitamin C, carotene, and oxalates. These nutrients help keep the heart healthy by preventing fat deposits in arteries and reducing inflammation.
In skin care, Changeri grass is effective against recurring acne because of its anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antibacterial properties that help prevent infections. It is also useful for women dealing with leukorrhea (white vaginal discharge), a condition that often persists despite medication and can weaken bones over time. Consuming juice made from Changeri leaves strengthens bones and can ease back pain.
Rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, Changeri grass boosts immunity. Moreover, it helps reduce inflammation, eases joint pain, aids in weight management, and supports gum health.
