Investigation Underway in Twisha Sharmas Death Case

Bhopal, May 19: The death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma at her in-laws’ home in Bhopal has sparked significant controversy. Her family has accused her husband and in-laws of long-term mental and physical abuse, dowry harassment, and using their influence to undermine the investigation.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajneesh Kashyap addressed these allegations in an exclusive interview on Monday.

When questioned about the lack of arrests despite the seriousness of the case, he stated, “The police are proceeding step by step. An FIR was registered on May 14, and the investigation has been ongoing since then.”

The family of Twisha has raised concerns that the police failed to recover or officially document the item she allegedly used to hang herself, suggesting that this was a deliberate attempt to weaken the case. In response, ACP Kashyap confirmed that the rope used for the hanging was seized on the day of the incident. However, he acknowledged that the investigating officers failed to submit it during the post-mortem examination. “We are currently investigating this oversight, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings,” he added. The item has since been handed over to the forensic science laboratory and is currently with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhopal.

Regarding the timing of the forensic examination, he noted that a comprehensive investigation has been conducted covering all aspects of the case, addressing potential issues that may arise.

Another point of concern is that Twisha’s body was taken down from the noose and transported to the hospital without the police being called to the scene first. ACP Kashyap stated, “This is a crucial point in our ongoing investigation. There are CCTV cameras at their residence, and we are currently obtaining footage. We are also looking into the circumstances surrounding her transfer to the hospital. As the case is still under investigation, we have not reached any definitive conclusions. However, I assure you that every aspect of this case will be thoroughly examined, and actions will be taken based on the investigation’s outcomes.”

Co-accused Giribala Singh has claimed that Twisha was addicted to drugs and would tremble when she did not receive her doses. ACP Kashyap mentioned that the police have not yet found any solid evidence to support this claim, but it will be investigated if it arises. Twisha Sharma was found dead on the night of May 12 in her in-laws’ home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. An FIR has been registered against her husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, under provisions related to dowry death and harassment.
