
Udaipur Kiran: The two-day international conference on “Role of Chemistry in Sustainable Development” organized by the Department of Postgraduate Studies and Chemistry at PAHER University, Udaipur, concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation from scientists, academicians, and researchers from India and abroad.
The valedictory session was graced by Prof. V.N.R. Pillai, Vice-Chancellor of Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai. Prof. Hemant Kothari, Vice-Chancellor of PAHER University, and Prof. Dilendra Hiran, Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology, also addressed the gathering and shared insights on the contribution of chemistry to sustainable development.
The second day of the conference featured several insightful scientific sessions. Prof. Ramaswami from Mauritius delivered a detailed presentation on “The Role of Computational Chemistry in Complementing Experimental Research for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).” Prof. Preetam Borkar from Goa University presented her latest research on “Metal Doping in SnO₂: A Pathway to Multifunctional Nanomaterials for Clean Energy and Environmental Applications.”
Prof. Sangeeta Sharma from Patan University, Gujarat, spoke on “The Role of Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) of Indian Sages in Chemical Sciences,” while Prof. S. Ravichandran from Chennai delivered an inspiring lecture on “Environmental Sustainability through Green Chemistry.”
During the conference, several researchers were honoured for their outstanding contributions. In the Oral Presentation category, Nitin Chaudhary and Pooja Yadav received the Senior and Young Scientist Awards, respectively. In the Poster Presentation category, Atul Polle and Bhavana Sharma were awarded as Senior and Young Scientists, while Manisha Dhami and Bhagyashree received the Student Scientist Awards. These recognitions served as motivation for young researchers to pursue innovation and advancement in sustainable science.
Conference Convener Prof. Seema Kothari informed that more than 300 professors, scientists, and research scholars from India and abroad participated in the event, sharing their innovations and findings through oral and poster presentations. The discussions and presentations provided new directions for practical applications and emerging dimensions of chemistry in sustainable development.
The proceedings were efficiently conducted by Dr. Himani, Dr. Purnima, Dr. Shikha, and Dr. Shraddha. Conference Secretary Prof. Neetu Shoragar presented the detailed report of the event, while Prof. Rakshit Ameta extended a heartfelt vote of thanks to all guests, participants, and organizers.
The international conference, hosted by PAHER University, not only promoted research and innovation in the field of chemistry but also marked a significant step toward realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
