Ajay Devgn is set to return to comedy with Son of Sardaar 2, the sequel to his 2012 action-comedy Son of Sardaar. Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, Devgn reprises his iconic role as Jassi, and revealed the first poster and release date of the film on Thursday.
“The Return of the Sardaar. #SOS2 in cinemas near you on 25th July,” Devgn wrote on Instagram, alongside a poster showing him in a turbaned avatar. The sequel marks his return to lighter, comic roles after a series of serious action films including Singham Again, Shaitaan, Bholaa, and Maidaan.
Joining him in Son of Sardaar 2 is Mrunal Thakur, with whom he shares the lead. The project also saw some casting changes. Actor Vijay Raaz, who played a significant role in the earlier film, was reportedly replaced following a disagreement with the director. Sanjay Mishra stepped in, confirming his involvement and stating, “I did the film because I got a call from Ajay Devgn. One call from him and that’s all it takes.”
The ensemble also includes Sanjay Dutt, Sahil Mehta, Kubbra Sait, and Ravi Kishan.
Presented by Jio Studios and Devgn Films, A Devgn Films and SOS 2 Limited production, Son of Sardar 2 is produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande.
The film will release in cinemas on July 25.
