Aamir Khan recalls spending eight days in Kargil after India won the war in 1999; RESPONDS to backlash over Operation Sindoor silence 1999 : Bollywood News

Actor-producer Aamir Khan addressed criticism surrounding his production house’s delayed acknowledgement of Operation Sindoor, India’s counter-terror response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack. During an appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, Aamir responded to the backlash by expressing his deep respect for the Indian Armed Forces. He also revisited a lesser-known chapter from his past – his eight-day visit to Kargil following the 1999 war.

“I was the only person who spent eight days in Kargil”

When questioned about whether public figures like him should make more active efforts to support and encourage the armed forces, Aamir shared, “I had gone, perhaps you all don’t know, but when the Kargil War happened and we won, I was the only person who spent eight days in Kargil. I landed in Leh, and from there, on the road that goes to Srinagar, I travelled for eight days. I met with every regiment.”

According to Aamir, the intent of his visit was to express gratitude and boost the morale of Indian soldiers. However, he said that the experience turned out to be profoundly humbling. “I thought I was going there to boost their morale, but instead, they boosted mine,” he remarked.

He recounted moments spent interacting with the soldiers – eating meals together, listening to their stories, and even spending a night in a bunker at the border. “There were six to eight soldiers there, and I don’t think anyone else has done something like that,” Aamir added.

On the professional front, Aamir Khan is set to return to the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par, a sports drama directed by RS Prasanna. The film is an official adaptation of the Spanish hit Campeones, and will see Aamir play a basketball coach training a team of neurodivergent children. Actress Genelia D’Souza plays a pivotal role in the film, which is slated for release in theatres on June 20.
