UDAIPUR, July 7, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) : Construction of the unique ‘Architects Tower’, dedicated to renowned architect Mandan, commenced on Tuesday afternoon at J.K. Circle in Shobhagpura with Vedic rituals and traditional ceremonies. The proposed tower, which will stand approximately 35 feet tall, is being developed as a symbol of Indian architecture, science and creativity and is envisioned as a new architectural landmark of Udaipur.
The foundation ceremony was performed by Vinod Porwal, the chief guest and Managing Trustee of the Dr. Vinod Jaskaran Porwal Trust. He formally inaugurated the construction work in the presence of project mentor and architect Sunil Laddha and technical associate architect Priyanka Kothari.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Porwal said that the identity of a society is shaped not only by its buildings but also by the creators who imagine and design them. He described the Architects Tower as a symbol of society’s gratitude towards creative minds who have contributed to the progress of civilization through their skills. He said the project, dedicated to the memory of Mandan, would help bring Udaipur’s cultural and architectural heritage to national and international prominence.
Dr. Porwal also appreciated the concept developed by architect Sunil Laddha and said that ideas connecting history, culture and society become timeless and serve as a source of inspiration for future generations.
Architect Sunil Laddha said that the tower would be more than a physical structure and would represent a living blend of Indian craftsmanship and modern architecture. He stated that it would possibly be the country’s first public monument dedicated to the entire community of architects and designers. According to him, the project aims to highlight the contribution of artisans and architects in shaping civilizations.
Laddha said the most distinctive feature of the tower would be a vertical sundial inspired by India’s historic Jantar Mantar observatories, where time and astronomical calculations were traditionally determined through the movement of the sun’s shadow. He said the sundial would symbolize India’s scientific heritage, architectural knowledge and harmony with nature while helping connect people, especially the younger generation, with the country’s knowledge traditions.
The programme was attended by Jaydeep Chhabra, Dr. Surabhi Gandhi, Hemraj Singh, along with a large number of young architects, designers, engineers and prominent citizens of the city. Participants described the project as a matter of pride for Udaipur and expressed confidence that, once completed, the Architects Tower would emerge as a significant symbol of architecture, art, science and cultural heritage.
