922 Arrested, Over 39,000 Litres of IMFL Seized in Excise Drive | Udaipur Kiran


UDAIPUR, June 1, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) : Under the direction of Excise Commissioner Namit Mehta, a special preventive campaign conducted across Rajasthan from May 1 to May 31 to curb the illegal manufacture, storage, transportation and sale of liquor proved effective and successful. During the campaign, a large quantity of liquor from other states worth more than ₹3.93 crore was seized. Illegal country liquor, wash and liquor distilleries were also destroyed, while 922 accused were arrested and cases were registered. The successful campaign dealt a significant blow to illegal liquor smuggling and is expected to help prevent revenue losses.

During the special preventive campaign from May 1 to May 31, 2026, a total of 2,046 cases were registered across the state. Seizures included 7,182 litres of country liquor valued at ₹19,41,242, 39,219 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) valued at ₹3,93,06,809, 19,806 litres of beer valued at ₹44.40 lakh, 30 litres of spirit and 13,443 litres of illicit liquor. A total of 5,62,984 litres of wash was destroyed during the campaign.

The department also seized 94 vehicles, including 15 heavy vehicles, 13 light four-wheelers, one three-wheeler and 65 two-wheelers. A total of 922 persons were arrested during the operation.

Excise Commissioner Namit Mehta regularly monitored the campaign and held two video conferences with all EPF teams, zonal and district officers, directing them to carry out effective action through vigilant patrolling, checkpoints and raids. Daily reviews of zonal and district-wise progress were conducted, and officers were encouraged to strengthen the informer network and coordinate with local police and railway police wherever required to ensure effective action against illegal liquor activities.

Several major seizures were made during the campaign. Near Khandi Obri Toll Plaza in Kherwara, Udaipur, a truck container carrying “For Sale in Chandigarh” English liquor was seized, with an estimated value of ₹35 lakh. In Hanumangarh, a large consignment of “For Sale in Punjab” English liquor worth an estimated ₹90 lakh was seized from a truck on the Bharatmala Expressway.

In Osian, Jodhpur, a joint team from Jodhpur and Pali seized English liquor worth an estimated ₹58 lakh from a truck on the Bharatmala Expressway. In Kota, two separate operations near the new toll plaza at Gopalpura on National Highway 52 led to the seizure of English liquor worth an estimated ₹60 lakh and ₹70 lakh respectively from trucks.

In Balotra Circle of Barmer district, English liquor worth an estimated ₹62 lakh was recovered from a truck on the Amritsar-Jamnagar Bharatmala Expressway and a case was registered. Similarly, during a checkpoint operation on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Dausa, a truck carrying “For Sale in Punjab” English liquor worth an estimated ₹50 lakh was seized. A consignment of English liquor was also recovered from a mini truck in Jalore.

The campaign also witnessed effective action against illicit country liquor and destruction of wash. EPF teams, in coordination with railway police, carried out operations that helped curb the illegal transportation of liquor across the state.
