
Thane, May 21: A devastating fire broke out early Thursday morning in a vegetable market in Thane, Maharashtra, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. Officials from the Thane Municipal Corporation reported that two others were severely injured and have been taken to the hospital for treatment.
The fire erupted around 3:45 AM at the village Devi vegetable market located on Gokhale Road in the Naupada area of Thane. Due to the late hour, residents were unaware of the blaze until it had spread significantly.
The massive flames and thick smoke from the burning stalls created panic in the area. Local residents alerted the fire department after realizing the severity of the situation. Reports indicate that the market housed not only vegetable stalls but also several clothing vendors.
Upon receiving the alert, six fire brigade vehicles rushed to the scene, and efforts to extinguish the fire commenced. Unfortunately, during the firefighting operations, two individuals lost their lives. The deceased have been identified as Sagar Shinde (43), a station officer with the Thane fire brigade, and Kalu Shankar Gadekar (53), a security guard with the municipal corporation.
Additionally, two firefighters were injured in the incident; they have been identified as Sujit Pashté (45), a station officer, and Samir Jadhav (40), a firefighter. Both injured personnel are currently receiving treatment at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and officials are investigating the incident.
