New Delhi, May 16: Businessman Robert Vadra, husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, expressed his confidence and lack of fear following his bail in a money laundering case linked to the Shikohpur land deal. Speaking to the media after his release, Vadra stated that he has nothing to hide and is prepared to face the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
On Saturday, Vadra appeared in the Rouse Avenue Court, where he was granted bail on a bond of ₹50,000. His lawyer argued that Vadra had never been arrested in this case before, leading the court to approve the bail. The next hearing is scheduled for July 10.
After receiving bail, Vadra emphasized his trust in the judicial system of the country, while also noting that the ED operates under government directives. He criticized the ED’s approach, asserting that he remains available to answer any questions and fulfill all formalities.
Vadra remarked, “If we are winning elections and doing good work, and people still want my family, then I must face all of this. I have the courage to confront it. I am fearless and have nothing to hide.”
The ED has accused Vadra’s company, Skylight Hospitality Private Limited, of purchasing approximately 3.5 acres of land in Shikohpur, Haryana, for ₹7.5 crore in February 2008, despite having limited capital. The agency claims that no actual payment was made and that the sale deed contained false statements, including references to a check that was allegedly never issued or cashed.
Furthermore, the ED alleges that the land’s value was understated in the sale deed, resulting in stamp duty evasion, which constitutes a crime under Section 423 of the IPC. The agency has identified ₹58 crore as proceeds of crime and has temporarily attached 43 properties valued at ₹38.69 crore.
