Assam CM Reviews Power Projects to Strengthen Energy Infrastructure

Guwahati, May 15: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the progress of key electricity projects on Thursday, as reported by officials. The projects include those under Assam Power Distribution Company Limited, Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited, and Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Limited.

The main focus of the review meeting was to strengthen Assam’s electricity infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted power supply to meet the state’s growing energy needs.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister assessed the current peak power demand situation and reviewed the existing arrangements for electricity supply across the state. He directed officials from the three power companies to expedite ongoing projects related to thermal, solar, and hydroelectric power generation, as well as the development of transmission and grid infrastructure.

Officials present at the meeting provided updates on various ongoing projects across Assam, which include measures to increase production capacity, modernize the transmission system, and reduce losses in transmission and distribution.

According to officials, special emphasis was placed on increasing electricity availability during peak consumption times, particularly in rapidly growing urban areas and industrial zones. The Chief Minister also stressed the need to complete projects on time to avoid delays in strengthening the state’s energy network.

This review comes at a time when Assam is witnessing a continuous increase in electricity consumption due to urbanization, industrial expansion, and rising household demand for power.

As part of its comprehensive strategy, the government is also focusing on increasing renewable energy production to ensure a sustainable and reliable power supply.

Sources indicated that the Chief Minister instructed relevant departments to maintain better coordination to expedite project completion and optimize resource utilization. He also emphasized the importance of regular monitoring of ongoing works to ensure that all targets are met within the stipulated timelines.

In recent years, the Assam government has undertaken several initiatives to improve electricity connectivity and infrastructure in both urban and rural areas. Officials anticipate significant increases in the state’s production, transmission, and distribution capacities in the coming years due to the ongoing projects under Assam Power Distribution Company Limited, Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited, and Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Limited.
