UDAIPUR, January 25, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran): On the eve of Republic Day, a deeply emotional moment unfolded at Apna Ghar Ashram, where a brother and sister were reunited after being separated for nearly three years. The reunion highlighted the values of humanity, service, and compassion, restoring lost happiness to a family that had long given up hope.
The man, identified as Jankarraj from Gujarat, was rescued during a drive in March 2024 and admitted to Apna Ghar Ashram, Udaipur, for care, medical treatment, and rehabilitation. Ashram President Gopal Kaneria said that continuous care, affection, and medical support led to significant improvement in his health.
During counselling by the ashram’s team, Jankarraj initially shared only his name and home state, stating that he had no recollection of his family and wished to continue living at the ashram. At that time, he could not remember any contact details of relatives.
Ashram in-charge Sultan Singh said that on the night of January 23, coinciding with Basant Panchami, Jankarraj suddenly recalled his brother-in-law’s mobile number during a discussion with service volunteers. The number was immediately contacted through a video call. As soon as his sister Shakuntala saw her brother on the screen, she broke down in tears, turning the moment intensely emotional.
On Sunday, Jankarraj’s brother-in-law Kannu Bhai, his sister Shakuntala, and social worker Siraj Bhai arrived at Apna Ghar Ashram to take him home. Kannu Bhai said that due to mental health issues, Jankarraj had left home nearly three years ago. Despite extensive efforts, the family was unable to trace him and had eventually assumed he was no longer alive. The news on January 23 that he was safe at Apna Ghar Ashram, Udaipur, brought immense joy to the entire family.
After completing all formalities, ashram patron Suresh Vijayvargiya, President Gopal Kaneria, Vice President Rajesh Garg, Aravali Lions Club Trust Secretary Shyam Shiroya, Manju Sharma, Rekha Vijayvargiya, and Alpana Garg honoured Jankarraj with a tilak, traditional shawl, and turban before respectfully sending him off to his native village Gabat, Taluka Aravalli Bayad, District Sabarkantha, Gujarat.
The reunion stood as a living example of Apna Ghar Ashram’s humanitarian service and values, reuniting a family and restoring the happiness they had lost for years.
