Precision Radiation a Boon for Cancer Patients: Dr Senapati | Udaipur Kiran

UDAIPUR, January 10: (Udaipur Kiran) . Precision radiation has emerged as a major boon for cancer patients, with advanced radiation technologies playing a crucial role in improving treatment outcomes, said renowned cancer specialist Dr S.N. Senapati from Bhubaneswar.

Dr Senapati was speaking as the chief speaker at Raj AROICON-25, a cancer conference jointly organised by GBH Cancer Hospital, Udaipur, and the Association of Radiation Oncology of India (AROI), Rajasthan Chapter. He said radiation therapy is a key process in destroying cancer-affected tissue, and the use of advanced machines in India is providing significant relief to patients.

He explained that side effects associated with radiation can be significantly reduced through IMRT (Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy). Currently, tomotherapy is among the most advanced radiation machines in the country, enabling accurate radiation delivery in less time while minimising side effects. He said the technology is highly effective in treating cancers of the mouth, throat, lungs, breast, prostate, brain tumours and cancers in children.

The inaugural session of the conference was addressed by globally renowned cancer expert and chairman Dr Kirti Jain, who joined from the United States. He said research has been conducted on more than 200 types of cancer worldwide and continuous studies are underway. He highlighted that cervical cancer is the only cancer for which both prevention and effective treatment are possible. He added that more than 75,000 deaths of women every year in India due to cervical cancer can be prevented through awareness. Vaccination of women aged between 10 and 45 years can reduce the risk of cervical cancer by nearly 90 percent.

Various technical sessions at the conference were addressed by Dr Srinivasan from Chennai, Dr Sarbani Ghosh from Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, Dr Shyam Bisht from Medanta Gurugram, and Dr Jaskaran Sethi and Dr Parveen Railawat from Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute, Delhi.

More than 100 postgraduate students, cancer specialists and surgeons from across the state participated in the conference. Guests included doctors from RNT Medical College, senior medical faculty and representatives from American Medical College. Paper presentations, poster sessions and quiz competitions were also organised during the conference, while the organising committee honoured the guests during the event.
