Reasons Hemoglobin Levels Don’t Rise Despite Medication and Diet

New Delhi: Low hemoglobin is a common but serious HEALTH issue affecting people from children to pregnant women. Doctors often recommend iron supplements to combat anemia, but sometimes hemoglobin levels do not improve even after taking these medicines. The reason could be incorrect consumption methods.

Ayurveda suggests various ways to increase hemoglobin, but certain habits can prevent iron absorption and keep deficiency persistent despite medication and remedies. These include excessive consumption of tea or coffee, digestive problems, taking iron supplements with improper diet, avoiding iron-rich foods, insufficient sleep, and constant stress. All these factors negatively affect hemoglobin and gradually weaken the body.

Daily intake of beetroot is beneficial for raising hemoglobin. Consuming beetroot juice, beetroot-based rotis, or adding beetroot to salads can help. Pomegranate also aids in increasing hemoglobin, but it should be eaten rather than consumed as juice, since pomegranate juice can raise blood sugar levels.

Black sesame seeds and jaggery are rich sources of iron and help improve hemoglobin. Jaggery also provides calcium alongside iron. These can be consumed by making sesame-jaggery laddus. Dates and raisins are also effective in boosting hemoglobin levels and reducing fatigue and weakness. It is best to soak them overnight and consume them in the morning, as soaking enhances their nutritional benefits.

It is important to avoid tea, coffee, and packaged foods when hemoglobin is low. Getting adequate sleep is essential because without enough rest, the body’s cells do not get time to recover, leading to tiredness and weakness. Additionally, vitamin C is crucial for iron absorption, so including sour foods in the diet is advisable.
