Mumbai/Udaipur (Udaipur Kiran): Bollywood filmmaker Vikram Bhatt has landed in serious legal trouble in connection with an alleged Rs 30 crore fraud case involving a Rajasthan-based IVF specialist. Following the registration of an FIR in Udaipur, Mumbai Police arrested Bhatt from his sister-in-law’s residence at Ganga Bhawan Apartment on Yari Road.
The case is related to film and documentary projects for which crores of rupees were allegedly taken. However, according to the complainant, the projects were either not completed or he was not given proper credit even in the completed works. Vikram Bhatt has, however, strongly denied all the allegations and termed them misleading.
According to the FIR registered at Bhupalpura Police Station in Udaipur, Indira IVF founder Dr. Ajay Murdia claimed that he was persuaded to invest around Rs 30 crore in four films and several documentary projects, including a biopic based on his late wife. It is alleged that he was lured with claims of earning profits of up to Rs 200 crore from these projects. After the money was transferred, work on some projects was allegedly stopped midway, while in the completed projects, he was not given credit as promised.
The FIR names eight accused, including Vikram Bhatt, his wife Shwetambari Bhatt, daughter Krishna Bhatt, and associates Mehboob Ansari and Dinesh Kataria. Rajasthan Police has begun its investigation and is examining transaction-related documents, bank records and communication details. Co-producer Mehboob Ansari and Mumbai-based vendor Sandeep Trilobhan have already been arrested and produced before the Udaipur court, from where they were sent to jail. Police officials have stated that more arrests may follow as the investigation progresses.
Before his arrest, Vikram Bhatt had publicly denied the allegations while speaking to the media. He said that the FIR is misleading and based on incorrect facts. He claimed that the projects were stalled because the complainant stopped payments midway. Bhatt also alleged that forged documents may have been used to influence the police. The filmmaker stated that he has complete evidence to support his claims and is ready to fully cooperate with the investigation.
