Guwahati, October 20 (Udaipur Kiran): An Assam Police team has reached Singapore to investigate the mysterious death of popular singer Zubeen Garg, whose passing last month shocked fans across Assam and the entire Northeast. The team will visit the incident site and conduct an on-ground inquiry before submitting a detailed report upon return.
According to official sources, the investigation is being led by Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta and Titabar Additional SP Tarun Goyal. Gupta is heading the Special Investigation Team (SIT), while Goyal is part of the core probe team assisting with technical and field operations.
Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19 in Singapore under mysterious circumstances while attending the 4th North East India Festival as a representative artist from the region. His sudden death triggered widespread outrage in Assam, with more than 60 FIRs filed across different districts demanding a transparent and independent investigation.
Police officials confirmed that the team will visit the site where Zubeen allegedly drowned, a location now considered critical for reconstructing the sequence of events. The officers will also collaborate with Singapore Police to examine forensic, medical, and legal documents linked to the case.
Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the full investigation report will be made public after the SIT’s return. He assured that the government remains committed to transparency and will ensure justice is served.
“The state government is taking every possible step to uncover the truth behind Zubeen Garg’s death,” the Chief Minister added, noting that the singer’s demise has left a deep void not only in Assam but also among the global Assamese diaspora.
