(Udaipur Kiran News): OpenAI has introduced a major e-commerce feature called Instant Checkout inside ChatGPT, powered by a new Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) developed in collaboration with Stripe. The feature is now available in the US for all users — including those on the free tier — allowing them to buy products directly within chat.
At launch, Instant Checkout supports single-item purchases from US-based Etsy sellers. Users can tap Buy, confirm shipping and payment details, and complete their purchase without leaving the ChatGPT interface.
OpenAI clarified that merchants handle orders, payments, and fulfillment using their existing systems, while ChatGPT acts as a secure intermediary, passing necessary details between the user and seller. The service is free for users, with OpenAI charging a small transaction fee to merchants.
Future Expansion Plans

Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP)
The ACP is being open-sourced to encourage more merchants and developers to build integrations. OpenAI describes ACP as an open standard for AI commerce that allows AI agents, people, and businesses to collaborate securely on purchases.
According to OpenAI, the ACP is “powerful, secure, and easy to adopt”, enabling a new era of AI-driven shopping experiences where users can discover and buy products conversationally.
With Instant Checkout, OpenAI takes a significant step toward agentic e-commerce, blending AI assistance with real-world transactions directly in chat.
