Mid-air crisis: Two small planes collide at Colorado Airport while landing; 1 dead, others injured

One person died and three others were injured when two small planes collided while landing at a municipal airport in Colorado on Sunday. Authorities said they received the crash report at approximately 10.44 am (local time).A Cessna 172 and an Extra Flugzeugbau EA300 struck each other mid-air while approaching Fort Morgan Municipal Airport, as per a report by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Cessna, carrying two people, was on its final approach when it was struck by the other small plane, also with two on board, causing it to crash and catch on fire.Aerial footage showed both planes reduced to wreckage where one was completely burned to ash, while the other was left with only its tail, a wing, and a single tire amid the debris, as reported by 9News.Two people in the Cessna reportedly suffered minor injuries and were treated on-site, while one occupant of the second plane was hospitalized. The fourth individual, who was in the EA300, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Morgan county coroner’s office.The individuals affected have not yet been identified. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are conducting an investigation into the cause of the collision.MSU Denver’s collegiate aerobatics team was participating in a competition at the airport this weekend, but university officials confirmed that MSU students were not involved in the collision, as per the Denver Gazette. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim in this tragic event,” the sheriff’s office stated, as reported by ABC News. “We would like to express our gratitude to all the agencies that helped with this situation. Additionally, we want to thank the citizens who assisted in trying to extinguish the fire until the fire department and first responders arrived on the scene.”
