There’s a reason why resilience isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it looks like Sana Makbul, sitting in a hospital room, battling fatigue from immunotherapy, yet managing to hold onto hope like a lifeline. The Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner and actor has revealed that she’s currently fighting liver cirrhosis, a condition that developed after years of dealing with autoimmune hepatitis. For the unversed, autoimmune hepatitis causes the body’s immune system to attack its own liver. It’s something Sana has quietly been managing since 2020, until recently, when things took a sudden turn.

“Things got worse,” Sana admitted in a candid conversation with Hindustan Times, describing how her immune system began to aggressively target her liver. “Now I’ve been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis.” She’s currently undergoing intense immunotherapy and is in close consultation with her doctors to avoid what they’re all trying to steer clear of, a liver transplant.
“They’re doing everything they can, and so am I,” she shared, acknowledging the exhausting treatment but also the spark of hope that keeps her going. “I’m holding on. I want to get better without needing something as big as a transplant.”
She also admits that this phase of life has pushed her in ways that go beyond physical discomfort. “It’s not just the body that takes the hit. It’s your spirit, your career, your routine, everything you’ve built starts to pause,” she said. Work commitments have been put on hold, something she doesn’t say lightly. “I’ve worked really hard to reach where I am. And now, when things were finally aligning, this… happened. It’s heartbreaking. It didn’t happen overnight,” she reflects, speaking about the diagnosis. “I was doing okay for a long time. Then one day, my body just gave me a sign I couldn’t ignore.”
Now, every day looks different. “Some days I cry, some days I laugh. But every day, I try,” she says. “Healing is a journey, and I’m learning as I go.”
