Actor and model Mukul Dev has passed away at 54. The actor was known for his performances in Hindi, Punjabi and some South Indian movies.
Dev was reportedly hospitalised for his deteriorating health condition. Born in New Delhi on September 17, 1970, Mukul started his acting career with a TV serial Mumkin in 1996. On the small screen, Dev appeared in popular daily soaps such as Gharwali Uparwali, Kumkum, Kutumb and Kasshish.
His film debut came in the Sushmita Sen-starrer Dastak (1996). Mukul went on to act in noted Hindi movies such as Yamla Pagla Deewana, Son of Sardaar, R…Rajkumar and Jai Ho. Members from the Hindi film fraternity expressed their shock over the passing away of the actor.
“It’s impossible to put into words what I’m feeling. Mukul was a brother in spirit, an artist whose warmth and passion were unmatched. Gone too soon, too young,” Manoj Bajpayee wrote on X.
Actor Vindu Dara Singh posted on X, “Rest in peace my brother #MukulDev. The time spent with you will always be cherished and #SonOfSardaar2 will be your swansong where you will spread joy and happiness to the viewers and make them fall down laughing.”
“He was unwell for eight to ten days. He passed away at a hospital in Delhi. He was not looking after his health, he was depressed after the demise of his mother,” Singh told PTI.
“We were waiting for Mukul to join us for the photo shoot of Son of Sardaar 2 but he had stopped answering our calls,” he added.
Dev also co-wrote Omerta, starring Rajkummar Rao. The movie, directed by Hansal Mehta, was about the 1994 kidnappings of Westerners in India.
