The trailer of the upcoming Malayalam thriller Narivetta, headlined by Tovino Thomas, was unveiled by the makers on Thursday (April 24). Directed by Anuraj Manohar, the film is set to release in theatres on May 16.

The trailer of the film, said to be based on a real story, begins to show Tovino’s character, a cop, being cuffed and dragged into an interrogation. As we soon learn, tension is brewing between the cops and the tribals of a hill station as the latter stage a protest against being displaced from their homes. We see Tamil actor Cheran’s police inspector attempting to negotiate with the tribals, but when tensions rise, the cops resort to violence to silence the tribals.

It seems, only Tovino’s character finds the courage to speak against the atrocities, but in a sudden twist of fate, he is held responsible for the death of a protester. With the authorities now suspecting the involvement of Maoists, the plot thickens. The intense trailer promises a riveting story on the systemic oppression that tribals have faced in India.

Written by Abin Joseph, the film also features Priyamvada Krishnan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Arya Salim in pivotal roles. Notably, the film marks Cheran’s debut in Malayalam.

With music scored by Jakes Bejoy, the film has cinematography by Vijay and editing by Shameer Muhammad. Tippushan and Shiyas Hassan produce Narivetta under their Indian Cinema Company banner.
