Charu Asopa has responded to recent statements by her ex-husband Rajeev Sen, who raised questions about her financial claims and relocation to Bikaner. The actress, who has often been in the public eye due to the couple’s tumultuous relationship, has now addressed these concerns in an interview with ETimes, emphasizing her intent to provide a stable upbringing for her daughter, Ziana.

“I have been staying in Mumbai for quite a while now and my daughter is now growing up and I feel she should have a stable life,” Charu said. “Ziana’s education has started, she’s in nursery now and currently she’s quite young toh abhi chal jaata hai (so it’s manageable for now), but when she grows up, relocating every now and then will not be good for her. Woh disturb ho jaayegi toh ek jagah par rehkar bada hona sahi hota hai (She will get disturbed, so growing up in one place is better).”
She further explained the financial considerations behind her move. “I tried to buy a house in Mumbai but it is too expensive, and I can’t afford it. So, I felt it is best to stay at Bikaner and buy a house there. I can manage all the expenses there — be it maid, rent or even a loan amount. When I stayed in Mumbai, the expenses were too much… it costs around 1-2 lakhs, toh itne mein toh main EMI deke Bikaner mein khud ka ghar bana lungi (with that amount, I can pay EMI and build my own house in Bikaner).”
Charu also addressed the criticism that surfaced after a video from her cruise trip went viral, with many questioning the financial strain she claimed to be under. “Yeh koi andha bhi bata sakta hai ki cruise trip ek collaboration thi (Even a blind person can tell that the cruise trip was a collaboration). I did not pay a single penny to stay there… They wanted me to promote the cruise.”
Responding to accusations of creating a false narrative for sympathy, Charu took a dig without naming Rajeev. “I did not talk to anyone about my midlife crisis or financial issues, I have been selling clothes since last one year. Suddenly, this video got viral and a publication contacted me. People started talking about it, so I had to clarify. This happens every time and agar aap bolte nahi ho na toh log aapko kamzor samajhne lagte hain (if you don’t speak up, people start thinking you’re weak) and they start making stories on your life.”
About Rajeev’s criticism regarding her finances, Charu remarked, “Jo log kabhi mushkilein nahi dekhte, unke liye comment karna aasan hota hai (It’s easy to comment for those who have never seen hardships). They don’t know how middle-class people arrange loans and depend on banks.”
Rajeev, in his comments to ETimes, had said, “When she can afford to buy a house in Bikaner, how come financial struggle?” He called it an attempt to gain public sympathy and added, “This is just to put me down.” He also expressed concern over his limited access to daughter Ziana and her exposure on social media. “Only option is to fight this out in court,” he said.
Despite the ongoing public back-and-forth, Charu has clarified that she will continue to work as an actor but will avoid daily television due to its demanding schedule. “I will continue to work but not take up anything that takes away 14 hours or more of my day. As a mother, I am not ready to commit to that.” Charu’s decision to move and her response to the accusations seem rooted in a desire for stability and prioritizing her daughter’s future, while the differences with Rajeev remain unresolved.
