Zee TV is set to launch its new fiction show Saru, which tells the story of a young woman from rural Rajasthan who dreams of pursuing higher education and building a better future for herself. The show explores the emotional and societal challenges that come with leaving a small town to chase ambitions in the city.
Mohak Matkar talks about playing the lead in Zee TV’s new show about education and determination; says, “Saru wants to be a self-made woman”
The central character, Saru, is played by Mohak Matkar, who previously appeared in Hamara Parivar on the same network. Saru is described as a Kabaddi champion with aspirations to become a district commissioner. Despite being confident and independent, Saru remains rooted in her values and traditions.
The story revolves around Saru’s efforts to leave her village and study in Mumbai. However, her biggest hurdle is convincing her mother, who is opposed to the idea of her daughter moving away for education. The show aims to reflect the real-life dilemmas many young women face while pursuing their goals in the face of family and societal pressure.
Speaking about her role, lead actor Mohak Matkar said, “Having been a part of Zee TV over the past year with Hamara Parivar, I am extremely excited to bag the lead role in a hard-hitting show like Saru. When I was approached for the show, I was over the moon and it was like a dream come true. From the mock shoot to our outdoor shoot in Udaipur, I have enjoyed every moment with the entire team. We have collaborated and worked together on the lines, and I have truly enjoyed the process, making it a wonderful experience for me till now.”
She added, “What I love most about my character, Saru, is her determination to become a self-made woman. I admire her passion for education, her desire to learn, and her drive to achieve success. That’s why she’s striving to move to Mumbai—to create a better future for herself. Saru is a simple yet ambitious girl who wants to explore the world while staying true to her roots. I’m also absolutely in love with my character’s look, and I can’t wait for everyone to watch her story unfold.”
The show is produced by Shashi Sumeet Productions Pvt. Ltd., known for creating character-driven stories that reflect real-world themes. Saru focuses on education, gender roles, and the rural-urban divide through the lens of one young woman’s journey.
Zee TV has not yet announced the premiere date for Saru, but it is expected to go on air soon.
