Actor Hrithik Roshan recently opened up about his early struggles to establish himself as an actor, revealing how he went behind his father Rakesh Roshan’s back to audition for roles. In a candid conversation during his fans meet and greet tour, Hrithik shared that his father, a renowned filmmaker, instilled in him the importance of carving his own path without relying on family ties. “My father always told me that you have to make your own life, don’t expect me to make a film for you just because I am a director and you are my son,” Hrithik recalled.

Secret Auditions and a Photoshoot Hustle
Determined to break into the industry on his own terms, Hrithik took matters into his own hands. Doubting his readiness at times, he decided to audition for various filmmakers. To prepare, he turned to his friend, photographer Daboo Ratnani, for a portfolio shoot. “I had no money to pay him, so I said if I earn some good bucks once I become an actor, I will pay you back,” Hrithik shared, noting Ratnani’s supportive response: “Don’t worry about it.” Armed with new photos, Hrithik auditioned for several projects, including a significant one with acclaimed director Shekhar Kapur for a film titled Ta Ra Rum Pum Pum.

Hrithik’s clandestine efforts didn’t go unnoticed for long. While auditioning for Kapur’s project, which he described as an “amazing script” that never materialized, Hrithik received an unexpected call from his father. “He said, ‘Hello, where are you?’ I told him that I am auditioning for Shekhar Kapur’s film. He said, ‘What? Come back now, don’t do such things’,” Hrithik recounted. Rakesh’s reaction highlighted his desire to guide his son’s career personally, rather than letting another filmmaker launch him.
Speaking of the professional front, the actor is now all set to make his directorial debut with Krrish 4. Besides that, his next big screen project is War 2, scheduled to be released this year during Independence Day weekend.
