Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhava, the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, begins streaming on Netflix from April 11. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film is a biopic of Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the successor to the Maratha throne. While Kaushal portrays the fearsome warrior and Emperor, Rashmika Mandanna plays his wife and queen, Yesubai. The film also features Akshaye Khanna as Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

A period action spectacle, Chhava spotlights Sambhaji’s brave opposition to the mighty Mughal empire. The historical Sambhaji was captured in 1689 by Aurangzeb’s forces and tortured to death.

Speaking about the film’s streaming release, Vicky Kaushal said in a statement, “Playing Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was an honor beyond words and one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career. His courage, resilience, and legacy are something that should reach every corner of the world. With Netflix, we’re ensuring that his story not only penetrates deeper in India, but also gets the global platform it deserves.”

Producer Dinesh Vijan said, “At Maddock Films, we’re passionate about telling stories that matter; stories that leave a mark. Chhaava is not just a tale of courage, it’s a celebration of legacy, resilience, and sacrifice. After an incredible run in theatres, we’re excited to bring it to a global audience on Netflix, where the story can live on and continue to inspire viewers around the world.”

Kaushal’s next film is Love & War, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
