We reported in 2023 that Tamil star Dhanush is teaming up with filmmaker Mari Selvaraj once again after 2021’s Karnan for a film produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films. Now, on Wednesday (April 9), Dhanush announced that the film will be bankrolled by Ishari K Ganesh under his Vels Film International banner.
The news was announced on the fourth-year anniversary of Karnan. The makers unveiled a new poster to announce the news; it features a sword forged with a skull on the hilt. “Roots begin in a great war,” reads the tagline on the poster.
Meanwhile, Mari shared a picture with Dhanush and Ganesh, writing, “I am exhilarated to say that my next project is once again with my dearest @dhanushkraja sir! This has been soaking in my mind for quite sometime now and I am very excited to be joining hands with him once again (sic).”
Other details regarding the cast and crew remain unknown at the moment.
Tentatively called D56, the project has garnered quite a lot of hype since it reunites the actor and director after Karnan. 2021’s Karnan was an intense drama about an oppressed village’s fight against injustice. The film also starred Rajisha Vijayan, Natarajan Subramaniam, Lal, Yogi Babu, Gouri G Kishan, and Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli among others.
Dhanush, last seen in Raayan, has his 51st film, Kuberaa, directed by Sekhar Kammula; Idli Kadai, his own directorial; and Tere Ishq Mein, directed by Aanand L Rai, in the pipeline. Mari’s last release was Vaazhai. He is currently working on Bison: Kaalamaadan, starring Dhruv Vikram.
