It was a fair weekend for The Diplomat as Rs. 13.45 crores came in. The film did open on expected lines when Rs. 4.03 crores had been accumulated and then saw constant rise in collections on Saturday and Sunday. The numbers didn’t hit the roof though, as it happens with some content based films, which end up doubling up from Friday on Sunday at least, if not Saturday itself. However, at least there was growth on a day by day basis, and that too entirely on the basis of word of mouth, which is something to cheer about.
This was seen on Sunday when collections went up to Rs. 4.74 crores. The collections are just a little up over Saturday (Rs. 4.68 crores) and had they been in the range of Rs. 6-7 crores, then it would have been even better as that would have set up the John Abraham starrer to an even better total. However, now the lifetime will be far ahead of Rs. 15-20 crores range, which otherwise seemed like the case before the arrival of the film as there was hardly any promotional or marketing campaign preceding it.
The good part is that the film has two complete weeks entirely for itself and this is when it can score as much as it can. Sikandar arrives two weekend down the line and that much time is enough for The Diplomat to keep enjoying its run. At the multiplexes, the film has its target audience set and this is where it would be looking at scoring, especially at the key metros.
