Actor Ayo Edebiri, known for starring in The Bear, has said she received “insane death threats” after Elon Musk shared a fake news report which claimed she was a part of a film franchise.
Musk shared a fake report in February 2024 claiming Edebiri is being considered by Disney as a replacement for Johnny Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and captioned it as “Disney sucks.”

Sharing Musk’s original post as an Instagram story, Edebiri wrote, “Just remembering when I got some of the most insane death threats and racial slurs of my life (idk if it’s the #1 moment, but for sure top 3) for a fake reboot of a movie I had never even heard of because of this man.”
She also wrote, “LMAO. So not only is he double Sieg Heil-ing fascist, he’s an idiot but anyway.”
This comes after another Instagram story post in which Edebiri applauded comedian Bill Burr for his comments on NPR’s ‘Fresh Air’, in which he called Musk “evidently a Nazi,”. Commenting on his hand gesture at Donald Trump’s inauguration, Burr said “I just refuse to believe it was an accidental two-time Sieg Heil.”
Burr also called Musk an “idiot” with “dyed hair plugs and a laminated face” and someone “who makes a bad car and has an obsolete social media platform”. He also asked the liberals why they are “so afraid of this guy who can’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag?”
Last year, producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that a reboot is being developed by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales writer Jeff Nathanson but there has not been any updates on the new film’s cast or crew.
Meanwhile, Edebiri will soon be seen in A24’s horror movie Opus.
