Alia Bhatt has never shied away from showcasing her versatility on screen. However, in a recent conversation with author and podcast host Jay Shetty, she peeled back the layers of her personal life to reveal a deeply relatable struggle. The 31-year-old actress, currently juggling motherhood and a thriving career, opened up about her clinical diagnoses of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and anxiety—conditions she only recently sought to understand after years of physical and mental clues. Perhaps most striking was her admission: “My body was heating up at social gatherings,” a vivid description of how these challenges manifest in her everyday life.

A Journey to Diagnosis

During the podcast, Alia shared that her decision to seek professional help came after noticing persistent difficulties that went beyond the occasional “anxious day.” “I was finding it very hard,” she told Shetty. “My body was heating up at social gatherings and I was physically responding to it. I was also finding it hard to focus on certain things.” Determined to get answers, she underwent a rigorous three-day professional test—not a casual online quiz, as she explained—to confirm what she’d begun to suspect. The result? A dual diagnosis of ADHD and anxiety.

For Alia, the revelation was a bittersweet relief. “Strangely, I felt happy because my ADHD diagnosis gave me information,” she explained. The lack of clarity had always unsettled her, and having a name for her experiences brought comfort and a sense of agency. ADHD, a neurodevelopmental disorder often characterized by difficulty sustaining attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity, paired with anxiety, had been quietly shaping her interactions and inner world. “There’s a lot of noise and chatter in your brain,” she said, “and you feel like, ‘Is it just my brain? Or is it just something that is happening to me today?’ The minute you find an answer to it, it’s comforting.”

Choosing a Medication-Free Path

One of the most personal choices Alia revealed was her decision to forgo medication, despite the option being available. “I’m not on any medication or anything, although I can be,” she stated. “I chose not to and I’m just actively working on it to help get through it.” Alia believes she’s managing well, telling Shetty, “I think I’m doing pretty well.”

Adding further, Alia asserted, “The need for getting in more in order came after being a mum because I was like I don’t want to forget anything related to my daughter. I think that was my big fear.”
