Calls Grow for Preservation of Rakt Talai Ahead of Haldighati War’s 450th Anniversary | Udaipur Kiran

Rajsamand/New Delhi, June 5 (Udaipur Kiran): Concerns over the condition of Rakt Talai, regarded by historians and local groups as the original battlefield of the Haldighati War, have intensified ahead of the 450th anniversary of the historic battle on June 18.

According to local organisations and history enthusiasts, Rakt Talai, where several warriors including Hakim Khan Suri, Ramshah Tanwar and Jhala Man made their sacrifice during the battle of June 18, 1576, is facing neglect despite its historical significance.

They have alleged that the site has gradually lost prominence in tourism promotion and claimed that Rakt Talai is not included among the listed attractions of Haldighati on the official Incredible India tourism platform. Concerns have also been raised over the growth of private tourism activities around the region and the alleged neglect of the original battlefield.

Historical records cited by campaigners state that after Independence, a road connecting Rakt Talai and Chetak Samadhi was constructed, while a memorial project was developed in phases between the 1990s and 2009. However, they argue that the battlefield itself has not received adequate preservation and development.

The groups further pointed out that a proposal announced in January 2023 for a museum at Rakt Talai has yet to be implemented.

With Maharana Pratap’s 487th birth anniversary falling on June 17 and the 450th anniversary of the Haldighati War on June 18, local residents and heritage conservation advocates have urged the Rajasthan government to organise a state-level commemorative programme at Rakt Talai and take concrete steps to restore and preserve the historic site.

They have also called for renewed efforts to develop the area as part of a larger Maharana Pratap tourism circuit and to strengthen historical conservation initiatives in the region.
