Neha Kakkar: From Contestant to Judge on Indian Idol

Mumbai, June 6: Bollywood’s popular singer Neha Kakkar is now one of the most talked-about artists in the country, but her journey to success was filled with struggles. An interesting aspect of her life is that she was once a contestant on a reality show from which she was eliminated, but later returned as a judge on the same platform.

Born on June 6, 1988, in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, Neha grew up in a financially challenged environment, living in a small rented house with her family. Surrounded by music, she developed a passion for singing at a young age. Her elder sister, Sonu Kakkar, and brother, Tony Kakkar, are also involved in the music industry.

Neha began singing at religious events and gatherings when she was just four years old, performing devotional songs with her family. As her confidence grew, she decided to pursue a career in music. Seeking better opportunities, her family moved to Delhi, and later, Neha relocated to Mumbai with her brother Tony. Despite facing numerous setbacks, she remained determined.

In 2005, Neha participated in ‘Indian Idol’ but was eliminated early in the competition. At that time, few would have imagined that this girl would one day return to the same stage as a judge.

After her elimination, Neha worked on various projects, big and small. In 2008, she released her first music album, ‘Neha the Rockstar,’ and also sang in the film ‘Mira Bai Not Out.’ Her career took a significant turn with the song ‘Second Hand Jawani’ from the film ‘Cocktail,’ which brought her nationwide recognition.

Following this, her success continued to soar with hit songs like ‘London Thumakda,’ ‘Sunny Sunny,’ ‘Kala Chashma,’ ‘Dilbar,’ and ‘Aankh Marey,’ establishing her as one of Bollywood’s most popular voices. Her singing gained appreciation not only in India but also abroad, leading to a massive fan following on social media and YouTube.

Neha was given the opportunity to judge ‘Indian Idol,’ the same show where she had once been a contestant. She has served as a judge in several seasons, mentoring new talented singers.

On the personal front, Neha married Punjabi singer Rohanpreet Singh in 2020, and their pairing is adored by fans. Neha remains active in the music industry today.
