
Jaipur, June 5 (Udaipur Kiran): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested a JVVNL Assistant Engineer and a computer operator acting as a middleman while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in Tonk.
According to ACB Director General of Police Govind Gupta, a complaint was received alleging that an electricity department team had removed the complainant’s electricity meter and that Assistant Engineer Navneet Singh Gurjar threatened to impose a VCR and demanded Rs 25,000 for returning the meter. During verification, the demand was negotiated down to Rs 20,000.
Acting under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police Narayan Togas, ACB Tonk conducted a trap operation led by Additional Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Meena.
During the operation, Assistant Engineer Navneet Singh Gurjar allegedly directed the complainant to hand over the bribe amount to Mohammad Shazim, a computer operator posted in the JVVNL office. The complainant handed over Rs 20,000, which was allegedly received and counted by Shazim. The amount was subsequently recovered by the ACB team.
Both accused were arrested on the spot while allegedly accepting the bribe.
ACB officials said further questioning and investigation are being carried out under the supervision of Inspector General of Police S. Parimala. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation is underway.
