Udaipur, May 28 (Udaipur Kiran) – Police in Udaipur’s Ghantaghar police station area arrested a man accused of blackmailing and sexually assaulting his 14-year-old minor sister-in-law studying in Class 8. The accused was produced in court on Wednesday and sent to judicial custody.
According to Inspector Karmveer Singh, the victim’s mother filed a complaint before the District Superintendent of Police stating that her elder daughter was married to the accused and was currently staying at her matrimonial home during pregnancy.
The complaint stated that on May 1, the accused made a video call to the minor girl and allegedly threatened her that he would divorce her elder sister if she did not obey him. Frightened by the threat, the girl allegedly followed his instructions and went into another room. Police said the accused then captured objectionable photos and videos of the minor girl during the video call.
Police said the accused later continuously blackmailed the victim by threatening to make the photos and videos viral and defame her socially. On May 12, the accused allegedly came to his in-laws’ house as a guest and, after finding the girl alone, blackmailed and sexually assaulted her. He also allegedly threatened to kill both the victim and her elder sister if the matter was disclosed.
A case was registered under the IT Act and POCSO Act. During investigation, police found the allegations to be prima facie true and arrested the accused.
During interrogation, the accused claimed that he had deleted all data from his mobile phone. However, the police IT team recovered objectionable photographs related to the victim from the device. Police secured the material as evidence during investigation.
After completion of investigation, the accused was produced before the court on Wednesday, from where he was sent to judicial custody.
