Jaipur, May 15: Rajasthan’s Chief Secretary V. Srinivasan has set an ambitious target to expedite the distribution of pipeline natural gas (PNG) connections across the state. During a meeting of the state-level City Gas Distribution (CGD) committee on Thursday, he directed urban gas distribution bodies to connect an average of 1,000 homes daily, aiming to bring 43,000 homes under the PNG network by the end of June.
Srinivasan emphasized prioritizing homes in areas where pipeline infrastructure is already in place for immediate PNG connections. Representatives from all 13 CGD entities participated in the meeting.
He noted that both the central and state governments are making concerted efforts to promote the transition from LPG to PNG and the development of designated ‘LPG-free zones.’
The Chief Secretary also instructed CGD entities to raise public awareness about the benefits of PNG, which include 24/7 supply, elimination of cylinder booking hassles, convenience at home, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
He called for intensive awareness campaigns through social media platforms and the organization of connection camps to accelerate the process of laying pipelines in homes.
As of now, the state has established 490 CNG stations and provided PNG connections to 1380 commercial and industrial units, as well as 153,000 homes. Srinivasan stressed the need to further accelerate the implementation of domestic pipeline gas connections in line with government priorities.
