IPL 2026: Virat Kohli dismissed for 19 in Bengaluru against DC, is the green jersey unlucky for him?

[ad_1]

Donning the green jersey as part of their ‘Green Initiative’, defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru have seen star batter Virat Kohli experience a mixed run at the crease. On Saturday against Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Kohli scored 19 runs off 13 balls, hitting three boundaries before being dismissed off the first ball of Lungi Ngidi’s spell.

Since its inception in 2011, RCB’s Green Initiative has aimed to integrate sustainability into its operations, focusing on measurement, accountability, and fan engagement, with the broader goal of achieving carbon positivity. The franchise continues to use the green jersey as a symbol of its environmental commitment while hosting one of the most followed teams in the league.

Over the years, Kohli has remained one of RCB’s most consistent performers and leading run-scorers. In the current season, he has again been among the key contributors for the franchise. Overall in the green jersey, Kohli has amassed 432 runs in 15 matches, including one century and three half-centuries, underlining his ability to deliver impactful knocks in the special kit.

KOHLI’S BEST PERFORMANCE IN GREEN

The former Indian captain’s standout performance in the green jersey came against the now-defunct Gujarat Lions in 2016, when Kohli produced a masterclass with 109 off 55 balls. That innings powered RCB to a commanding 144-run victory at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The match is best remembered for the record-breaking 229-run partnership between Kohli and AB de Villiers, with the South African batter stealing the spotlight by scoring 129 off 52 deliveries and being named Player of the Match. Kohli also has recorded two golden ducks in the jersey in 2023 and 2024.

Against Delhi Capitals, on Saturday, he failed to make a significant mark, departing before the end of the powerplay as RCB looked to build momentum early in the innings. Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack tried keeping things tight, restricting RCB to 59 runs in the powerplay, with Phil Salt attempting to counterattack from the other end.

Despite moments of individual brilliance over the years, RCB’s overall record in the green jersey has been underwhelming. The team has managed just five wins from 14 matches in the special kit, along with one no-result, highlighting inconsistency even during their sustainability-themed fixtures.
