Udaipur, April 16 (Udaipur Kiran): Following objections raised by Member of Parliament Dr Mannalal Rawat over alleged historical inaccuracies and ideological bias, the state education department has ordered the removal of four textbooks for Classes 9 to 12 from the academic session 2026–27.
As per official instructions, the books will no longer be taught in schools. The directive was issued through a letter by the Deputy Director, Social Education, Rajasthan, Bikaner, addressed to all Chief District Education Officers and District Project Coordinators under Samagra Shiksha.
According to the letter, the discontinued books include Rajasthan Freedom Movement and Valor Tradition for Class 9, Rajasthan History and Culture for Class 10, Golden India After Independence Part-1 for Class 11, and Golden India After Independence Part-2 for Class 12, in both Hindi and English mediums.
MP Dr Rawat had specifically raised objections regarding the Class 9 textbook published by the Rajasthan State Textbook Board. He had sought corrections in certain facts mentioned in Chapter 4, page number 42 of the book.
However, the Board of Secondary Education Rajasthan reportedly stated that the published content was factually correct and did not require any changes. Following this, Dr Rawat expressed strong disagreement and submitted a detailed letter to the Chief Minister, highlighting his concerns.
He stated that the board’s response was completely incorrect and influenced by a left-leaning ideological perspective. He also alleged that several misleading observations were included in the authors’ remarks.
Dr Rawat further pointed out that the board had cited references from a book published in 2001 by historian Dr Brij Kishore Sharma through Rajasthan Hindi Granth Academy, Jaipur. He claimed that such content was deliberately included in the curriculum during the tenure of the then government.
He also objected to the use of certain terms, stating that they were contrary to nationalist sentiment. Additionally, he raised concerns over comparisons made between the Jharkhand movement and the freedom struggle associated with Govind Guru, calling them historically inappropriate.
Following multiple objections, the education department on Thursday issued orders to withdraw the four textbooks from the upcoming academic session.
