Washington, April 8: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a two-week halt on proposed military actions against Iran. This decision is contingent upon Iran’s agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and continue negotiations for a comprehensive peace deal.

In a statement, Trump mentioned that the decision was made based on discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who urged restraint amid rising tensions.

He stated, “On the condition that the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to fully, immediately, and safely reopen the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to halt bombings and attacks on Iran for a two-week period.” He described this move as part of a “bilateral ceasefire.”

This announcement marks a significant pause amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region. Trump asserted that the U.S. has already achieved its military objectives, saying, “We have accomplished all our military goals and have made considerable progress towards a long-term peace agreement with Iran. This will help establish peace in the Middle East.”

Trump revealed that the U.S. received a ten-point proposal from Iran, which he deemed a useful basis for negotiations. He expressed confidence that most of the longstanding disputes between the U.S. and Iran have been resolved, believing that the two-week period will aid in finalizing the agreement. “During these two weeks, the deal can be fully finalized,” he added.

He presented this development as a major success in efforts to bring stability to the region, stating, “It is a matter of pride for us to be close to resolving this long-standing issue.”

This statement was posted on Trump’s social media platform Truth Social, coinciding with his ultimatum for Iran to agree to the deal by 8 PM (EST). He warned that failure to comply could result in serious consequences for Iran.
