
New Delhi, April 4: In the eighth match of IPL 2026, Delhi Capitals (DC) showcased an impressive performance at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium, defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) by six wickets on Saturday. The star of the match was Samir Rizvi, who delivered a remarkable innings, scoring 90 runs off 51 balls.
Samir Rizvi was brought in as an impact player for this match and made the most of the opportunity, hitting seven fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 176. With this innings, he became the third player in IPL history to score the highest runs as an impact player, surpassing Karun Nair’s previous record. Nair had scored 89 runs as an impact player against Mumbai Indians in 2025.
The record for the highest innings by an impact player is held by Sai Sudharsan, who scored an unbeaten 108 runs against Delhi Capitals in 2025. Jos Buttler follows with the second-highest score, having made 107 not out against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024.
Chasing a target of 163 runs set by Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals had a shaky start, losing KL Rahul for just one run and Nitish Rana without scoring. However, Samir Rizvi and Pathum Nissanka steadied the innings with a crucial partnership of 66 runs for the third wicket. Nissanka scored 44 runs off 30 balls before getting out, while Samir remained firm, ensuring MI had no chance to make a comeback. David Miller finished the game with 21 runs off 18 balls, while Tristan Stubbs remained not out on three runs.
This victory marks Delhi Capitals’ second consecutive win in IPL 2026, propelling them to the top of the points table.
