Mumbai, March 24: Renowned South Indian director Balaji Mohan is making his entry into Hindi cinema with the upcoming horror-comedy film ‘Nayi Naveli,’ featuring actress Yami Gautam in the lead role.

The director expressed his excitement through an Instagram post on Tuesday, sharing a team photo and stating, “I am very proud to be making my directorial debut in Hindi with the film ‘Nayi Naveli.’ I have had the opportunity to work with Anand L. Rai Sir and Himanshu Sir, and Yami Gautam is in the lead role. See you soon in theaters.”

The film is directed by Balaji Mohan and produced by Anand L. Rai. It promises to be an entertaining mix of Indian mythology and folklore, with Yami Gautam appearing in a unique look.

The story is penned by Divya Nidhi Sharma, known for her work on acclaimed projects like ‘Taare Zameen Par,’ ‘Lapata Ladies,’ and ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Market.’ This marks her second collaboration with Anand L. Rai on ‘Nayi Naveli.’

The script is complete, and pre-production is currently underway. While the release date has not yet been announced, the film is expected to be available on the OTT platform Prime Video after its theatrical release, as indicated in the 2026 Prime Video slate.

The narrative revolves around a family from Meerut, where a newlywed bride transforms the home into a paradise. However, her brother gradually begins to suspect that not everything is as it seems. Will the family be able to protect themselves from the bride’s potentially sinister powers? These questions will be explored in the film, which blends humor with elements of horror, promising to entertain and thrill audiences.
