Udaipur, March 20, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran): Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology organised a farmer training programme under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), during which improved ‘Virat’ variety seeds of summer moong were distributed to 50 selected farmers.
The initiative was conducted under the Integrated Wheat and Barley Improvement Project. Along with seed distribution, a one-day training programme was held to educate farmers on advanced agricultural practices.
Project in-charge Dr. Jagdish Chaudhary explained improved production technologies for summer moong, including quality seed selection, balanced fertiliser management and better cropping practices. He highlighted that the ‘Virat’ variety has higher yield potential and is resistant to diseases, which can help increase farmers’ income.
Soil scientist Dr. Urmila guided farmers on soil testing, soil health management and balanced nutrient use in pulse crops. She advised regular soil testing and appropriate fertiliser application to maintain soil fertility and improve productivity.
During the session, Dr. Amit Bishnoi spoke about pulse crop management in changing weather conditions, irrigation practices, nutrient management and timely pest and disease control. He encouraged farmers to adopt weather-based farming practices.
Scientist Dr. Chandra Prakash Nama provided detailed information on nematode pests, their life cycle, crop damage and integrated management techniques. He stressed the importance of crop rotation, resistant varieties and regular field monitoring, along with combined biological, cultural and chemical control methods.
A total of 72 farmers participated in the programme. Farmers described the training as useful and expressed expectations for similar initiatives in the future.
