KL Rahul Unaware of Washington Sundar’s Injury Severity, Reveals Post-Match

Vadodara: The Indian cricket team secured a four-wicket victory against New Zealand in the first One Day International (ODI) match held in Vadodara on Sunday. The winning shot was played by KL Rahul, who remained unbeaten with 29 runs. Washington Sundar also stayed not out with 7 runs. After the match, KL Rahul admitted that he was not fully aware of the seriousness of Sundar’s injury.

Rahul stated that while he knew Sundar was injured during the first innings, he only realised the extent of the injury and the difficulty Sundar was facing while running when he came out to bat. Sundar was struggling to run between the wickets due to the injury.

He praised Sundar’s effort, saying that despite the injury, Sundar was hitting the ball well and was effectively rotating the strike.

Washington Sundar was injured while bowling during New Zealand’s innings and had to leave the field. Due to his injury, Harshit Rana was sent in to bat before him.

Captain Shubman Gill commented on Sundar’s injury, saying the full extent would be known only after a scan. According to reports, Sundar has suffered a side strain injury.

If Sundar’s injury turns out to be severe, it could pose a challenge for Team India, especially since Sundar is part of the squad for the T20 World Cup 2026.

Regarding the match, India won the toss and chose to bowl first. New Zealand scored 300 runs for 8 wickets. India chased the target by scoring 306 runs for 6 wickets in 49 overs, winning the match by four wickets. Virat Kohli, who scored 93 runs, was named Player of the Match.
