Madhya Pradesh continues to experience cold weather, though there is some relief from the severe cold wave for the next three days. The active western disturbance over northern India is causing clouds, rain, and snowfall in the mountains, which has weakened the speed of cold winds. As a result, no cold wave alerts have been issued for the state during this period. However, the minimum temperatures are still falling steadily.
The lowest temperature in the state was recorded in Kalyanpur, Shahdol district, where the night temperature dropped to 4.7 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, two new western disturbances are expected to enter northern India soon. Once they advance, the snow will start melting, and cold winds will blow towards Madhya Pradesh, likely causing the cold wave to return.
On Friday and Saturday nights, minimum temperatures in 25 cities across the state remained below 10 degrees Celsius. Among major cities, Indore was the coldest with 5.9 degrees Celsius, followed by Bhopal at 6.4 degrees, Gwalior at 9.8 degrees, Ujjain at 9.2 degrees, and Jabalpur at 8.5 degrees Celsius. Other places recorded low temperatures as well: Rajgarh and Pachmarhi at 5.4 degrees, Mandsaur at 6 degrees, Shajapur at 6.4 degrees, Rewa at 7 degrees, Raisen and Naugaon at 7.6 degrees, Malajkhand at 7.9 degrees, Mandla and Shivpuri at 8.2 degrees, Datia at 8.4 degrees, and Betul at 9 degrees. Damoh, Satna, Tikamgarh, and Khajuraho registered minimum temperatures of 9.2 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists explain that the jet stream is currently active over the plains of northern India, impacting Madhya Pradesh as well. This jet stream is flowing at an altitude of about 12.6 kilometers at a speed of 176 kilometers per hour, causing fluctuations in the weather.
