Dara Singh Release Petition Hearing Postponed Till February 2026 | Udaipur Kiran

New Delhi, December 5 (Udaipur Kiran). The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on the petition seeking early release of Ravindra Kumar Pal alias Dara Singh, who is serving life imprisonment in the murder case of Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two minor sons. The next hearing in this matter will now be held in the second week of February 2026.

During the hearing in the Supreme Court, the Odisha Government informed that the state government has constituted a special committee which is considering Dara Singh’s petition for premature release. Due to this reason, the court has postponed the hearing for now.

In his petition, Dara Singh has stated that he is now 61 years old and has been imprisoned for more than 24 years. During this period, he was not granted parole even once. His mother passed away, but he could not even perform her last rites. Dara Singh has demanded release citing good behaviour.

On the night of January 23, 1999, Australian missionary Graham Staines was sleeping with his two young sons Philip (10 years) and Timothy (6 years) in a jeep in Manoharpur village of Keonjhar district in Odisha. An angry mob set their vehicle on fire, in which all three were burnt alive. This incident created outrage across the country and the world.

After CBI investigation, Dara Singh was considered the main accused. In 2003, the Sessions Court sentenced him to death, but in 2005 the Odisha High Court commuted it to life imprisonment. In 2019, the Supreme Court also upheld the life sentence.
