New Aadhaar Cards May Show Only Photo and QR Code | Udaipur Kiran

Mumbai, 20 November (Udaipur Kiran)। The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is planning major changes to the Aadhaar card format to enhance privacy and prevent misuse of personal details.

According to UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar, the proposed redesign would include only the card holder’s photograph and a QR code, removing printed information such as name, address and the Aadhaar number. The new rules are expected to be introduced in December 2025.

UIDAI aims to curb illegal offline verification practices by hotels, event organisers and other entities, and to stop the misuse of Aadhaar photocopies that can lead to fraud and identity theft.

Kumar said the QR code will securely store all required details, which can be accessed only through authorised authentication. He emphasised that Aadhaar should not be used as a document, but verified using a QR code or Aadhaar number to avoid the risk of fake documents.

The proposed rule will be reviewed on December 1, 2025. To support the transition, UIDAI is also preparing to launch a new Aadhaar app to replace mAadhaar. The upgraded app will enable verification through QR code scanning and facial recognition, helping users share their information securely for services such as hotel check-ins, event entry, age verification and access to residential complexes.
