Religious Leaflet Controversy: Preacher Arrested from West Bengal for Distributing Objectionable Pamphlets | Udaipur Kiran

Jaipur, November 7 (Udaipur Kiran). In a major breakthrough, Udaipur’s Dabok Police have arrested a 57-year-old religious preacher from West Bengal for allegedly distributing objectionable pamphlets that contained controversial remarks about idol worship and aimed to provoke religious sentiments.

Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal said the incident came to light on September 24, 2025, when complainant Shantilal lodged a report at Dabok Police Station. He stated that a pamphlet related to the Christian faith was found under the shutter of his shop, Vinayak Jewellers. The leaflet contained derogatory comments on idol worship, which could hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community. Based on his report, a case was registered against an unidentified person.

Taking the matter seriously, SP Goyal directed the formation of a special investigation team under the supervision of Additional SP Anjana Sukhwal and ASP Ashima Vaswani. Using technical intelligence, the team traced and detained the accused, identified as Daniel Oltino (57), son of A.E. Oltino, from Jalpaiguri, West Bengal.

Came to Udaipur to Celebrate Wedding Anniversary
During interrogation, Daniel Oltino described himself as a Christian religious preacher who promotes his faith and conducts prayers for school children to spread knowledge about Christianity. He revealed that he had visited Udaipur’s Dabok area with his wife on September 17, 2025, to celebrate their wedding anniversary and stayed at Galaxy Hotel until September 22.

Used 10-Year-Old Pamphlets
The accused admitted that on September 21 and 22, he distributed old pamphlets — printed nearly ten years ago — containing appeals to adopt Christianity and controversial remarks about Hindu idol worship. He inserted these pamphlets under the shutters of closed shops at Dabok intersection.

Following his arrest, further investigation into the case is ongoing.
The police team that carried out the operation included Acting Station Officer Babulal (Sub-Inspector), Head Constable Arjun Singh, and Constables Umesh and Vikas.
