Washington, November 4 (Udaipur Kiran) — The United States and its allies could be granted authority by the United Nations to govern and secure Gaza, according to a draft resolution reportedly obtained by the news outlet Axios.
Citing Axios, The Times of Israel reported that the Trump administration has submitted a proposal to the UN Security Council for the creation of an international stabilization force in Gaza. The draft resolution, prepared by the Security Council, would authorize the US and its partner nations to administer and maintain security in Gaza for a period of two years.
As per the report, the proposed international force would be responsible for securing Gaza’s borders with Israel and Egypt, protecting civilians and humanitarian zones, and training new Palestinian police officers. The force would also have explicit authority to disarm Hamas and oversee the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip.
Its mandate would include dismantling and preventing the reconstruction of military, terrorist, and offensive infrastructure, as well as ensuring the permanent elimination of weapons held by non-state armed groups.
The draft further states that the force would carry out additional tasks necessary to implement the Gaza agreement, operating in close coordination and consultation with Israel and Egypt. Axios also reported that US President Donald Trump’s proposed peace board would be granted powers to act as a “transitional governing administration.”
