Bhopal, November 1 (Udaipur Kiran): The month of November has begun in Madhya Pradesh with an unusual combination of rain and cold, continuing a trend seen over the past decade. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the first week of November will bring heavy rainfall in several parts of the state, followed by a sharp drop in temperature.
On Saturday, IMD issued a heavy rainfall warning for Ratlam, Jhabua, Alirajpur, and Barwani districts, predicting up to 4.5 inches of rain in the next 24 hours.
In the state capital Bhopal, cloudy skies are expected throughout the day with chances of light evening showers. Light rain is also likely in Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ujjain, Indore, Khargone, Burhanpur, Sheopur, Morena, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Mandla, and Balaghat. Meteorologists suggest that rainfall may continue during the first week of November, while northerly winds from the second week will intensify the winter chill.
October witnessed record-breaking rainfall across Madhya Pradesh, with an average of 2.8 inches, nearly 121% higher than the normal 1.3 inches. This was double the expected rainfall for the month. The unseasonal rain also led to a steep decline in daytime temperatures — Bhopal recorded a maximum of 24°C, the lowest in 25 years, while several districts including Ujjain, Chhatarpur, and Narsinghpur saw daytime temperatures below 24°C.
According to IMD Bhopal, despite the formal withdrawal of monsoon on October 13, rainfall persisted due to cyclonic circulation, low-pressure systems, and depressions. These weather disturbances prolonged cloud activity across the state, affecting crops in districts like Narmadapuram, Sheopur, Morena, and Bhind, where strong winds and heavy showers caused localized damage.
The state had been under the influence of Cyclone Motha for the past four days, which has now weakened. On Friday, skies remained cloudy without significant rainfall, and the evening turned pleasant. The Regional Meteorological Centre expects clearer conditions over the next 48 hours, with sunshine returning by Saturday afternoon and a mild chill in the evening air.
Light showers are still likely in Jabalpur, Mandla, Dindori, Narsinghpur, Balaghat, and Seoni in the next 24 hours. The day will see alternating sunshine and clouds, while slight humidity may persist at night. The weather is expected to clear by November 3, followed by a shift toward cooler north-easterly winds, which will gradually bring down night temperatures.
Between November 5 and 13, the IMD predicts no significant rainfall in eastern Madhya Pradesh, but a steady increase in cold conditions is expected.
Overall, November has opened with both rain and chill in Madhya Pradesh, continuing the pattern of recent years. After a rain-heavy October, the first week of November will remain wet, setting the stage for a sharp rise in winter cold across the state.
