200 Artists Showcase the Cultural Harmony of Northeast India at ‘Octave Mahotsav’ in Nagpur | Udaipur Kiran

Udaipur/Nagpur, October 11 (Udaipur Kiran) — Around 200 artists from the northeastern states of India mesmerized audiences in Nagpur with a grand fusion performance, celebrating the region’s rich and diverse cultural traditions. The event was part of the ‘Octave Mahotsav’, jointly organized by the West Zone Cultural Centre (WZCC), Udaipur, and the South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC), Nagpur, under the guidance of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

The third day of the festival saw an overwhelming response from the audience, with the auditorium echoing with applause as artists showcased the vibrant spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.’ The festival will conclude on Sunday, October 12, at 6 PM at the SCZCC campus in Nagpur.

Dignitaries Grace the Event

The event was graced by Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Singhal, Principal Secretary to the State Government Mrs. Vinita Singhal, CBI Deputy Director Hrishikesh Sonawane, WZCC Assistant Director Durgesh Chandwani, and former SCZCC Director Dr. Deepak Khirwadkar. The guests were welcomed by Dr. Aastha Karlekar, Director of SCZCC.

A Vibrant Display of Northeast India’s Artistic Heritage

The performances highlighted traditional dance forms from the northeastern states, beautifully choreographed under the guidance of Tarun Pradhan, with artistic direction by Anam Mahato and Abhilash Sarkar.

The evening began with a captivating Manipuri Ras Leela performed by Dr. Sinam Basu Singh and his troupe, blending elegant movements, intricate costumes, and melodious music. It was followed by a mesmerizing Sattriya dance performance from Assam, led by Dimple Setia and her team. Originating in Assam’s Vaishnav monasteries, the Sattriya dance brought alive the spiritual essence of Lord Krishna’s childhood tales.

The unique feature of the evening was the artistic contrast — while Manipuri Ras Leela depicted Krishna’s divine dance with the Gopis, Sattriya portrayed the innocence of his early life.

The event concluded with thunderous applause, leaving both performers and spectators inspired by the unity and beauty of India’s diverse cultural heritage. The program was smoothly anchored by Kishor Galande and Mohita Dixit.
