Navratri Sales Hit 10-Year High After GST Cuts, All Eyes Now on Diwali | Udaipur Kiran

New Delhi, October 3 (Udaipur Kiran News): India’s festive season has kicked off on a record-breaking note, with Navratri sales reaching their highest levels in a decade, driven by the recent reduction in GST rates. Sectors like automobiles and consumer electronics have witnessed a massive surge in demand, with sales growth ranging between 25% and 100% compared to last year. The strong start has raised expectations of even higher sales during the upcoming Diwali season.

Automobile Sector Sees Record Growth

The automobile industry reported its best Navratri sales in over 10 years, boosted by NextGen GST reforms introduced by the government, which reduced tax rates and made vehicles more affordable.

  • Maruti Suzuki India reported 100% growth in Navratri sales compared to last year, doubling its retail figures. The company recorded 1.5 lakh bookings and expects to reach 2 lakh soon. During Navratri alone, Maruti sold 1.65 lakh units, including a record 30,000 cars on the first day — the best single-day performance in its 35-year history.

  • Mahindra & Mahindra saw a 60% year-on-year rise in retail sales.

  • Hyundai witnessed a sharp increase in demand for its SUV models like Creta and Venue, which now account for over 72% of its total sales.

  • Hero MotoCorp saw double the footfall this Navratri, driven by strong demand in the commuter bike segment.

  • Tata Motors sold over 50,000 vehicles during the festive period, led by models such as Altroz, Punch, Nexon, and Tiago.

  • Bajaj Auto also reported strong sales momentum.

Consumer Electronics Witnesses Double-Digit Growth

The consumer electronics sector also saw robust growth:

  • LG, Haier, and Godrej Appliances registered double-digit sales growth.

  • Haier reported an 85% increase in sales, with 85-inch and 100-inch TVs nearly sold out ahead of Diwali. The company sold 300–350 units of 65-inch TVs daily during Navratri.

  • Reliance Retail, India’s largest retailer, posted 20–25% higher sales year-on-year, led by large-screen TVs, smartphones, and fashion.

  • Vijay Sales reported over 20% growth, while LG Electronics India also logged “exceptional growth” during the season.

Confidence Boost from GST Reforms

Industry associations credit the rationalization of GST slabs for creating a positive consumption environment. By reducing taxes on essential and aspirational goods, the government has encouraged consumer spending across sectors.

Navratri marks the first phase of India’s peak festive season, which continues through Onam, Durga Puja, and Dussehra, accounting for 40–45% of total festive sales. With strong Navratri numbers, retailers are now gearing up for record Diwali sales.
