Udaipur Campaign Urges Citizens: “Spend in Udaipur, Support Local Jobs” | Udaipur Kiran

Udaipur, September 26 (Udaipur Kiran News): The Mewar Bachao Manch has launched a new campaign titled “Udaipur ka Paisa Udaipur Mein” (Udaipur’s Money Should Stay in Udaipur) to raise awareness about the growing threat of dark stores and online instant delivery platforms to local businesses and employment.

According to the organisation, instant delivery companies and their dark stores are affecting nearly 30% of local employment in Udaipur, directly impacting shopkeepers, vendors, delivery workers, and other small traders. The Manch warns that this issue goes beyond commerce—it poses a serious risk to Udaipur’s social and economic structure.

“A Blow to Udaipur’s Economic Soul”

Mewar Bachao Manch founder-president Abhishek Pandey said that earlier, several local people—farmers, wholesalers, retailers, and delivery personnel—were part of the traditional supply chain. But with dark stores, goods are now supplied directly to customers, and profits are flowing outside the city.

“These companies attract buyers through offers, but they charge hidden costs like minimum order fees, surge charges, and handling fees, making each order 30–40% costlier. Every order includes ₹10–₹12 handling charges. This is not just an economic challenge, it’s a blow to the very soul of Udaipur,” he said.

Pandey added, “When 30% of the city’s people lose jobs, who will pay rent? Who will keep the markets alive? This movement is about saving Udaipur’s identity.”

Awareness Drive in Three Phases

The campaign will run in three phases

  1. Raising awareness among traders,

  2. Educating the public, and

  3. Finding permanent solutions to protect local trade.

The Manch will conduct outreach in markets, crossroads, roadsides, and tourist spots, encouraging citizens to buy from local businesses, especially during the Diwali season.

Inspired by Freedom Fighters’ Ideals

The Mewar Bachao Manch has been inspired by the thoughts of freedom fighter and Constituent Assembly member Balwant Singh Mehta. Its working committee includes Mayank Jani (Vice President), Dipesh Sharma (Secretary), Dr. Shikha Doshi, Chirag Meghwal, and Nidhi Gupta (Joint Secretaries).

Broader Social Mission

Along with the “Spend in Udaipur” campaign, the Manch is also working on senior citizen safety, education, digital awareness, women’s employment, sanitation, and heart health initiatives.

Pandey emphasized, “This is not a political movement but a citizen-led initiative to find positive, local solutions through collective effort.”
